Luke 17:1-10
Another day, another teaching from Jesus. Today, He shares seemingly different notes with us. The first is about leading others away from God, the second about forgiveness of others, the third and fourth, we overhear Jesus speaking to the disciples, sharing about the power of faith, and how they won’t be commanded for simply doing what God asks of them.
They seem to be separate, but the more we chew on what is being said, we realize that Jesus is pointing out that our faith isn’t in what we are accomplishing but in what God is accomplishing. There will be temptations, but it will be worse for us if we are the ones that bring temptations and cause others to stumble. People sin against us, and we are called to forgive them infinitely every time they request forgiveness; we are not better than them. Faith does more than simply get us into heaven; it alters our reality; trees will relocate. We may share the gospel with hundreds more, but God asked us to share that message and isn’t credited to us.
We are but God’s creation, seeking Him, and would do well to remember it is not our glory but God’s glory we are experiencing.
In what ways have you given yourself glory for God’s work in your life?
How can we recognize God’s work and praise Him this week?
How can we have a healthy humility as an integral component of our lives?
Lord, help me give you all the glory and praise you alone! Amen
