Lk 19:29-44
Jesus has recently implied the kingdom isn’t right around the corner, but what we witness today is again quite beautiful. We enter Bethany. Jesus tells a couple of disciples to go get a donkey, and he enters the city riding a donkey. People are laying down their clothes and branches and praising the Lord. The words they use remind us of our scriptures speaking of the humble Messiah.
I sense we should savor this moment. As the praise is happening, the Pharisees tell Jesus to rebuke those who are shouting and praising. Jesus claims they have missed the boat and don’t know how true peace was coming. Who knows what is coming next, but in this moment, let us savor the entry of our humble King.
How have you expected the wrong things from Jesus?
What do you learn from Jesus’ humble entry?
How will this impact the way you live?
Lord, you have shown us the way and are the true king. Help us to surrender our lives to you. Amen
