Dear Friends…
Music has always been a vital component of the congregational worship at First Baptist Church.
Our 1900 Felgemaker Tracker Pipe Organ has enhanced that worship in countless ways. It
provides essential support as the congregations sings the longstanding hymns and wonderful new
songs of the church. In addition, the preludes, offertories, postludes and musical
accompaniments during communion set tones of praise, reverence, prayer and thanksgiving. The
sound quality, tonal colors, and dynamics of this particular organ are particularly conducive to the
mission of the instrument – to glorify God and praise Him.
We have been told the organ is in need of major repair. Only a few people in the country are
skilled enough to make such repairs, and the cost is high. B. Rule and Company of Knoxville,
Tennessee has agreed to refurbish the organ for a total cost of some $88,000.
We at First Baptist Church, which is 203 years old this year, are looking to leading businesses
and members of our community for monetary assistance in refurbishing our organ, of which only a
few remain in the entire United States. It was placed in the church in 1901 with money raised
entirely by the women of the church.
Because we have been approached by people outside the church asking how they might
be a part of the renovation, we would like to give you an opportunity to give. You may send
your tax-deductible contribution to First Baptist Church, 416 Vine Street, Madison, Indiana
47250. Any size contribution will be appreciated. Please note on your check your contribution is
for the organ restoration.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact the church at 265-2331. Any of us
would be pleased to speak with you.
We wish you prosperity in your business and success in your endeavors to strengthen this
community.
Sincerely,
The First Baptist Church Organ Restoration Team
